The Konstantin Chaykin Lunokhod Prime is an incredible timepiece of extraordinary design, featuring a dominant spherical moon phase display in case of 18Kt rose gold and sapphire crystal from the hands of one of the world's most prodigious and respected watchmaking talents.
The Lunokhod was the name given to Russia's 1970s lunar rover, and its success deployment on the surface of the moon was a major source of national pride at a time when the space race was at its most intense, and years later the impression it left on Master Watchmaker Konstantin Chaykin would result in his own astonishing tribute to the famous space project.
Lunokhod Prime is a truly unique watch in which Konstantin Chaykin has captured a genuinely other-worldly persona with its alien form, this time in 18Kt rose gold, and the unfamiliar but intriguing configuration of its displays. Centre stage sits a dominating sapphire crystal dome and inside the perfectly spherical South Seas pearl moon. A hemispheric rhodium coated silver shell rotates fully around the lustrous orb to replicate the phases of the moon in a fabulous 3-dimensional display,
A sapphire dial reveals the exposed mechanical workings below, and the hours and minutes are displayed in separate panels around and beneath the centrepiece, with the retrograde minutes located beneath the moon and the hours in a semi-circular arc above. Using a rotating disc with gold sun and crescent moon symbols to indicate the hours, the 24 hour display quickly becomes familiar.
